SOPHOMORE (2008)
Enjoyed a breakout season as one of the nation's top hitting second basemen • Earned second-team All-America honors from the NCBWA and third-team All-America status from Collegiate Baseball and added second-team ABCA All-Atlantic Region and All-ACC accolades • Also a Semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award and named to the watch list for the Dick Howser Trophy and the Brooks Wallace Award • Won the Walter Rabb Award as the Tar Heels' most improved position player • Started all 68 games - 66 at second base and two at third base • Hit .347 (93-268) with a single-season UNC record 30 doubles, a team-high 75 RBI, five triples and nine home runs • Also scored 62 runs and slugged .597 • Notched 44 extra-base hits to rank second in UNC history and tied for seventh with five triples • Posted the fourth-most RBI in school history with 75 and also posted the 10th-most total bases with 160 • 30 doubles also ranked as the most in the ACC and the third-most nationally • Finished in the ACC's top 10 in nine offensive categories • Led the Tar Heels with 22 multi-RBI games, including 11 games with three or more RBI • Finished third on the team with 31 multi-hit games, including eight outings with three or more base hits • Logged three two-homer games • Hit safely in 53 of 68 games this season • Posted a 27-game hitting streak, the fourth-longest hitting streak in school history, from Feb. 28 to April 8 • Hit .431 (47-109) with 17 multi-hit games over this streak • Hit .381 (45-118) with 32 RBI in 29 ACC games • Drove in eight runs in 10 NCAA Tournament games • Hit .383 with runners on base and .384 with runners in scoring position • Drove in three runs and scored four runs in the Cary Super Regional win over No. 9 Coastal Carolina • Belted a two-run homer and drove in three runs versus UNC Wilmington in the Cary Regional May 31 • Went 3-for-4 with two runs against No. 2 LSU June 15 at the College World Series • Opened the season in strong fashion with first career two-homer game and a career-high four hits at Florida Atlantic Feb. 23 • Also matched then-career bests with four runs and three RBI in that win over the Owls • Drove in a career-high five runs against Boston College April 18 to give him 17 RBI in a six-game stretch • Also homered twice in that win over the Eagles to give him five home runs in a three-game ACC stretch • Was 5-for-9 with two RBI and three runs in the two wins at No. 1 Miami • Tallied 26th double at Miami May 17 to break the single-season UNC record of 25 set by Jarrett Shearin in 1998 • Went 2-for-4 with the game-tying single in the seventh and a key hit in the 10th-inning rally of a 2-1 win over No. 2 Florida State April 27 • Hit .538 (7-13) with three home runs and eight RBI in the sweep at Clemson April 11-13 • Homered twice and drove in a then-career high four runs in the April 12 win and hit the go-ahead homer in the April 13 victory • Was 3-for-5 with three RBI in the April 6 win over No. 14 Georgia Tech • Went 6-for-18 with five doubles at Maryland March 21-23 • Drove in 10 runs for the week of March 10-16 with a pair of three-RBI games • Was 3-for-5 with two RBI against Coastal Carolina March 11 • Drove in 10 runs and hit .571 at the Winthrop Coca-Cola Classic Feb. 29-March 2 • Matched a then-career high with three RBI in three straight games from Feb. 28-March 1. Summer 2008: Played in 30 games at second base and shortstop for the Chatham A's of the Cape Cod League • Hit .288 (34-118) and drove in 16 runs and added six doubles and one home run.
FRESHMAN (2007)
Saw action in 66 games and made 48 starts, mainly at second base and designated hitter • Hit .308 (62-for-201) with 34 runs scored and 30 RBI • Had 10 doubles, two home runs and a triple • Stole four bases • Hit .338 with runners in scoring position • Finished with 16 multi-hit games and eight multi-RBI games • Posted a .333 average (23-for-69) with 11 RBI in ACC play • Batted .306 (11-for-36) in the NCAA Tournament and hit safely in 10 of the 13 games • Had a career-high three hits on five occasions, including the Super Regional finale against No. 4 South Carolina June 10 • Also had three hits against Virginia Tech March 23, Davidson March 28 and UNCW April 3 and Maryland May 19 • Scored a career-best four runs versus Davidson March 28 • Wend 2-for-5 with a career-high three RBI at Florida State April 22 • Posted a career-best six-game hitting streak from Feb. 17-24 with three straight multi-hit games over this stretch • Hit first career home run against UNCW April 3 and went 2-for-6 with a game-tying homer in the 10th inning April 17 against Campbell. Summer 2007: Played with the Chatham A's of the Cape Cod League • Hit .274 (29-106) with four doubles, one home run and one triple in 31 games • Also drove in nine runs • Played 27 games at second base and seven at shortstop.
