Seniors Send Tar Heels Past UIC, Into Elite Eight

Senior Michael Callahan scored the equalizer in the 87th minute and classmate Garry Lewis netted the overtime game-winner in the 95th to lift No. 13 seed North Carolina past UIC, 3-2, and into the quarterfinal round of the 2008 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship Sunday at WakeMed Soccer Park. With the victory, the Tar Heels (13-7-1) move on to host Northwestern Saturday at Fetzer Field for the right to advance to the College Cup for the third time in program history. (more)

Tar Heels Headed To American For NCAA First And Second Rounds

The University of North Carolina volleyball team, the Atlantic Coast Conference co-champions, will travel to Washington, D.C. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5-6, for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Volleyball Championships, the NCAA announced Sunday night. The Tar Heels will take on host American on Friday as they make their 11th appearance in the NCAA tournament. (more)

Hawkins' Overtime Tally Sends Tar Heels To College Cup

Sophomore midfielder Ali Hawkins made sure her third shot of the second overtime period found the back of the net in the 102nd minute as fourth-ranked North Carolina defeated 14th-ranked Texas A&M 2-1 in double overtime in the quarterfinals of the 2008 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Tournament at Fetzer Field. (more)

Seven Tar Heels On 2008 All-ACC Football Teams

Seven North Carolina football players have been named to the 2008 All-Atlantic Coast Conference team as selected by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA). Safety Trimane Goddard and wide receiver Hakeem Nicks earned first-team honors, while Mark Paschal, Kendric Burney and Garrett Reynolds were named to the second team. Calvin Darity and Brandon Tate were honorable mention picks. (more)
